Log your first week of time

Set up a project, add work items to your timesheet, and log your first hours

This covers both sides of time tracking: an admin setting up a project, and an employee logging hours against it.

Admin side

  1. Workspace settings → Projects → Add project (admin only). Name it, and optionally set a default time category (see Classifying engineering time as capex or opex).
  2. Open the project and add work items on its Work items tab. Every project also carries a General time bucket, created with the project itself.
  3. Its Members tab helps prioritize project suggestions. Assignment is a filter only - it never blocks anyone from logging time against a project they aren't assigned to.

Employee side

  1. Time tracking → My week → Add work item. Choose a recent item or search by name, issue key, or project. Source narrows the tracker and Filters reveals project selection. Only items with time already logged appear automatically on the grid.
  2. Choose a work item, then type a duration directly into today's cell: 2, 1.5, 15m, 1h 30m, or 01:30. Enter or Tab saves it. Adding a row alone saves nothing. Clearing a saved cell or entering 0 deletes its time and note, with Undo available.
  3. Time tracking → My month gives a calendar view; click today or a past day to open My day. Future dates cannot receive time. The Week / Month / Day switch keeps the selected date, and previous/next navigation can be bookmarked.
  4. Expected hours per day come from the person's work schedule minus approved leave, so a four-day-week employee sees 0 expected on their day off. With no stored schedule the grid falls back to 40 hours across five days.

An admin can limit how far back entries can be edited at Workspace settings → Time tracking → Editing window; Timesheet mechanics covers how the cutoff behaves for each role.

Managers get Time tracking → Team timesheets, a week grid over everyone they manage, filtered to Attention, Missing, Partial, Complete / away or All, with a per-row Remind that sends one in-app nudge. Reports → Time groups by project, person, work item or category, filters by team, project or category, and exports CSV - see Classifying engineering time as capex or opex.

Worked example

Marta creates two projects for Northlake: "Platform v2" and "Maintenance & support." She adds a "Bug triage" work item to Platform v2 and assigns the Platform engineers to both. On Monday, Tomasz opens My week, adds Platform v2's General time and Bug triage, and enters 6h and 2h in Monday's cells.
