Request leave with /timeoff, see who's out, optional daily digest, and Approve or Reject from a Slack DM. You opt in.

Slack is how leave shows up where the team already talks. Three surfaces, one install: DMs with Approve and Reject, slash commands, and an optional daily digest in one channel.

It does not read your messages.

What Slack does

/timeoff. Opens a modal to request time off. /timeoff balance replies with your own balances.
/whos-out. Who is away today, or this week.
Approval DMs. When a request is waiting on you, you get Approve and Reject in the message. After you decide, the message updates.
Decision DMs. When your own request is approved, rejected, cancelled or partially cancelled, you get a plain DM.
Optional daily digest. An admin runs /timeoff digest here in one channel. One message a day: who is away, on which dates. Weekends stay quiet unless somebody is off. Never the leave type.

/clock is not a thing yet.

How to connect

An admin opens Workspace settings → Apps and installs Slack. The bot can send DMs, answer commands, and post the digest to a channel an admin names. It still cannot read your messages or your channel list.
Each person opens My settings → Notifications, clicks Connect Slack, and signs in. That proves they own the account. Commands and DMs need that link. Guessing from email is not how this works.
They can disconnect whenever they want. Email and Inbox keep working.

Anyone who skips Slack keeps the same notifications as before.

Deciding from Slack is still your rules

An Approve or Reject button is not a shortcut around policy. SquadBear verifies the click, matches the Slack account, then re-checks the decision against that person's permissions. If the request was already decided, the message just tells you the current status.

Digest, if you want it

On the Slack app card you can pause the digest without forgetting the channel, and pick the hour (workspace time). There is no channel picker: SquadBear never reads a list of your channels. Run /timeoff digest here in the room you want, or paste a channel id.

Frequently asked questions

Does SquadBear read our Slack messages or list our channels?

No. It does not read messages, does not list members, and does not read your channel list. It can send DMs to people who linked Slack, answer /timeoff and /whos-out, and, only after an admin names a channel with /timeoff digest here, post one daily absence digest. That digest is names and dates. Never the type of leave.

Who gets a Slack DM?

Only people who connected their own Slack account. Approvers get a DM when a request is waiting on them. Requesters get a DM when their leave is approved, rejected, cancelled or partially cancelled. Anyone who has not connected Slack still gets email and in-app, nothing is lost.

How does someone connect their Slack account?

An admin installs Slack once at Workspace settings → Apps. Each person then opens My settings → Notifications, clicks Connect Slack, and signs in. SquadBear never guesses the link from email. Disconnect whenever you want.

Is clicking Approve in Slack safe?

Yes. The click is signature-verified, matched to the Slack account, then re-checked against that person's own permissions. It does exactly what they could do in the app, and nothing they could not.

Can I clock in from Slack?

Not yet. /timeoff and /whos-out are leave. Attendance still lives on Clock, a kiosk tablet, or an agent with attendance permission.
