Where SquadBear is the stronger choice
You already have the assistant. Connect Claude once. Ask "request next Friday off as vacation." Tomasz still approves in Inbox. It is her login, not a second bot account. BambooHR will give you a dashboard. We give you the same Friday in the chat you already live in.
One system, so the spreadsheet dies. Timesheets already know about the holiday. Health checks sit next to absence, not in a second survey tool. A joiner process is already in Inbox on day one. No connectors between our own modules.
Price you can say out loud. Free for 5. Then $4 a head. No AI upsell, no "Core vs Pro vs Elite" conversation, no $250 floor.
EU by default. Files in the EU, export and genuine erasure, Cloudflare. For a European team that is the product, not a region toggle.
Time tracking engineers will actually use. Log against a real Jira or Linear issue. Classify for R&D / CapEx. Submit the week. The manager approves it. BambooHR's time is built for payroll. Ours is built for the work.
Where BambooHR is the stronger choice
Worth saying plainly:
- Breadth and years in market. BambooHR has been around since 2008. That track record counts when a board wants a "real HRIS."
- Payroll and benefits. They do it, including US compliance. We do not.
- Hiring / ATS. They recruit in-product. We start after someone has joined.
- Marketplace. A large catalogue of payroll, benefits and HR add-ons.
- Native mobile apps and deeper org-wide HR reporting. We have no native app today.
- A bigger HR team. If you need benefits, payroll and hiring under one long-established vendor, that is their job.
Who should pick which
- Pick SquadBear if you are an EU or engineering-heavy team that wants leave, time and team health in one place, a free tier, and an assistant that can actually file the request.
- Pick BambooHR if you need US payroll, benefits admin, a built-in ATS, native mobile, or a traditional HRIS for a larger people team.

For an EU tech team that wants leave, time tracking, team health and a real employee record, yes. If you live in BambooHR for US payroll, benefits admin or the built-in ATS, we don't do those, so it isn't a swap.
What's the biggest difference?
How you operate it. SquadBear is built so Claude or ChatGPT can do the same clicks you can, under your permissions, on the same audit trail. BambooHR is a solid web app with an API and a marketplace. Their AI answers questions. Ours files Friday off.
Does SquadBear do payroll like BambooHR?
